Can you sell a rented property in Geneva?

Yes, but in Geneva the sale of a rented apartment is governed by the LDTR (Geneva law on demolition, conversion and renovation of housing): its article 39 makes the sale of a tenant-occupied apartment subject to authorisation, and these rules have recently been amended. The process differs depending on the situation (occupied, vacant, or sold to its tenant). It is a point we check from the valuation onwards: your broker tells you straight away what is possible, within what timeframe and on what terms. Investment buildings follow their own rules.
