Plan-les-Ouates: village, residential districts and watchmaking hub

Plan-les-Ouates holds a particular position on the Left Bank. The municipality keeps a village core and its hamlets (Arare, Saconnex-d'Arve, La Chapelle), while hosting one of the largest industrial zones in the canton. Way of life

The village has kept its historic layout around the town hall and its church. Around it, several residential districts have been added over the decades, from Champ-des-Toises to more recent developments such as Les Cherpines. There are quiet streets, green spaces and an active community life, as the municipality has long invested in events and local activities. The proximity of the Geneva countryside, towards Saconnex-d'Arve, remains an asset for families looking for calm without moving away from the city.

Access and transport

Since December 2023, the extension of tram line 15 has served the municipality as far as the ZIPLO terminus, with stops at Curé-Baud, Le Rolliet and Cherpines. This line links directly to central Geneva and connects with the Léman Express via Lancy-Pont-Rouge. For residents as well as for people working in the industrial zone, it is a concrete change in daily journeys. Road links remain good towards Carouge, Lancy and the motorway, which weighs in the searches we support.

Schools and families

The municipality has several primary schools, and the Aimée-Stitelmann school covers secondary education in this part of southern Geneva. The Vélodrome, Voirets and Fraisiers districts benefit from the new tram service, which makes school journeys easier. The Cherpines development also includes schools and public facilities, a sign of a municipality anticipating the arrival of new households.

Architecture and property

The property stock of Plan-les-Ouates is varied. The village and the residential housing areas concentrate detached and semi-detached villas, often with gardens. More recent developments have brought apartment buildings, with both small units and large family homes, particularly in areas close to the new infrastructure. Les Cherpines is the municipality's major urban project, with new homes phased over time. This coexistence of old buildings, suburban housing and recent constructions creates a market where properties compare poorly from one district to another. This is precisely where detailed knowledge of the area makes the difference in a valuation.

The presence of the industrial zone also plays a role. Plan-les-Ouates has established itself as a leading watchmaking hub, to the point of earning the nickname “Plan-les-Watches”, with several manufacturers having set up their production facilities there. This activity supports local employment and fuels steady residential demand from people working nearby.
