One of the smallest municipalities in western Geneva, in a bend of the Rhône: fields, forests and a village, some twenty minutes from the centre.
Aire-la-Ville sits in a bend of the Rhône, in the west of the canton. Of its roughly 293 hectares, a large share remains farmland or woodland, and the residential zone is modest. Just over a thousand inhabitants, known as Aériennes and Aériens, live there in peace and quiet. Its rural character shapes the whole landscape. The Rhône marks the northern boundary and gives the place its identity, with the Moulin-de-Vert nature reserve close by in the neighbouring municipality of Cartigny. Community and farming life remain active, which sets the village apart from a mere residential area. The housing stock is dominated by detached houses, often on generous plots inherited from the area's farming past. The zone set aside for housing covers only a small part of the territory, which makes land scarce and each sale relatively distinctive.
Walks along the Rhône, the Moulin-de-Vert reserve close at hand, village life around the town hall and the rue du Vieux-Four: Aire-la-Ville lives to the rhythm of the countryside, a few minutes from the city and the airport.
