Aire-la-Ville is one of the smallest municipalities in the west of the canton of Geneva, set in a bend of the Rhône. Its territory covers about 293 hectares, a large share of which remains agricultural, with significant wooded areas and a modest residential zone. It has just over a thousand inhabitants, known as Aériennes and Aériens. For anyone looking for a country setting a few minutes from the city, the municipality has concrete arguments.

Way of life

Its rural character shapes the whole landscape. Fields and forests cover most of the land, and the Moulin-de-Vert nature reserve, in the neighbouring municipality of Cartigny downstream of the Verbois dam, offers walkers a popular site close by. The Rhône forms the northern boundary and gives the place its identity. Roe deer, foxes and wild boar can be seen depending on the season. Community and agricultural life remains active, which sets the village apart from a mere dormitory area. Calm prevails, with a low population density for the canton.

Access and transport

The municipality is close to the main roads. According to the town hall, it is about ten minutes from Geneva Airport and about twenty minutes from the city centre by road. The Verbois dam, built by the Services industriels de Genève between 1938 and 1943, crosses the Rhône at Aire-la-Ville and links the municipality to Russin on the other bank. For public transport, several TPG bus lines serve the area, with line 70 and, since August 2024, line 83, supplemented by the tpgFlex on-demand shared transport service. The regional train also passes close to the dam.

Schools and families

Aire-la-Ville has its own school, whose premises also host public events. The municipality runs early childhood and youth facilities, shared with neighbouring municipalities. For a family, the appeal lies in this combination of local services and a country environment, with natural areas within walking distance. Practical information on childcare, opening hours and registration is set out on the municipality's official website.

Architecture and property

Detached houses continue to dominate the building stock of Aire-la-Ville. The zone set aside for housing and infrastructure represents only a small part of the territory, which explains the scarcity of available land and the limited number of properties changing hands each year. The village core, around the town hall and Rue du Vieux-Four, keeps a low scale and village charm. Villas, often on generous plots inherited from the area's agricultural history, make up most of the supply. This configuration makes each sale relatively unique, with few directly comparable references.

Our presence in Aire-la-Ville

We count 4 sales documented by CI-Léman in Aire-la-Ville since 2006, out of the 575 we have handled in the canton. They break down into three villas and one apartment. It is a small volume, in keeping with a municipality where transactions remain rare. This local experience, however modest, gives us useful benchmarks on how these properties are positioned and on the expectations of buyers looking for this kind of rural setting close to Geneva.
