NeighbourhoodsConfignon, a guide to a commune on Geneva's Left Bank
A hilltop village, the Cressy neighbourhood and the nearby Cherpines: what Confignon offers families and owners on Geneva's Left Bank.

Contents
Confignon owes its personality to its old village set on a hillock, south-west of the city of Geneva. The commune covers about 2.77 km² and borders Onex, Bernex, Perly-Certoux and Plan-les-Ouates. It blends old streets around the church with more recent developments, making it a territory with two faces, where rural calm sits alongside residential growth that has continued since the 2000s.
The living environment
The historic centre keeps its wine-growing character, inherited from a long tradition that shaped the commune until the 1960s. The church of Saints-Pierre-et-Paul, recorded as early as the twelfth century, overlooks the village and remains a visual landmark on the Left Bank. Around it, the vineyards and open spaces give Confignon a breathing room that few communes so close to the city centre manage to keep. The population has risen sharply over two decades, from around 2000 inhabitants in the early 2000s to nearly 4600 in 2023, driven mainly by the development of the Cressy area.
Access and transport
Confignon benefits from its position between several Left Bank routes. The Transports publics genevois (TPG) network serves the commune by bus and links it to neighbouring communes as well as to the centre. Tram line 15 has been extended towards this part of the canton, in the direction of Lancy and Plan-les-Ouates, with a stop planned on the Cherpines side. For car journeys, the proximity of the main Left Bank roads and the motorway makes trips to Geneva, the airport and neighbouring France easy. The commune also promotes soft mobility, with facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
Schools and families
Confignon attracts families for its measured environment and local amenities. The commune organises after-school care, school canteens and school-related activities. The Cherpines eco-district project, straddling Confignon and Plan-les-Ouates, includes a school, a crèche and a sports and cultural hub, which will strengthen the offer for children in the years ahead. Green spaces, vineyards and pedestrian links provide a reassuring setting for those looking to settle for the long term.
Architecture and property
Confignon's housing stock reflects this dual identity. The old village brings together old houses and characterful residences, while areas such as Cressy have seen apartment buildings and more contemporary developments emerge. You therefore find both detached villas, often sought after for their plots and their tranquillity, and recent apartments suited to first-time buyers and families. The development of Les Cherpines confirms this dynamic by adding new homes in the immediate vicinity. For buyers, this variety means different property profiles depending on the area, which calls for a close reading of the local market.
