NeighbourhoodsPerly-Certoux, a guide to a commune in the Geneva countryside
Perly-Certoux, a residential commune in southern Geneva near the Perly customs post. Village setting, schools, villas and apartments: our complete guide.

Contents
Perly-Certoux lies in the south of the Canton of Geneva, on the route linking the city to Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, right on the French border. The commune brings together two villages: Perly, set on the heights of the southern slope of the Mont-de-Sion, and Certoux, rooted in the Aire plain. This dual origin explains much of the character of the place, which has remained largely residential and rural.
Quality of life
The village spirit still shapes daily life. The old village of Perly and that of Certoux remain primarily residential, with a few farms and vineyards recalling the commune's past. Perly-Certoux belongs to the landscape of Geneva's rural communes and lies close to a major green corridor formed by the Aire, its wooded areas and its farming and market-gardening plain. For many residents, it is this balance between the calm of the countryside and the proximity of the city that gives the commune its value.
Access and transport
The commune has direct access to the bypass motorway, which brings Geneva closer and makes journeys to neighbouring France easier. The Perly customs post is a historic crossing point between north and south, and the Certoux crossing also opens at set times. As for public transport, the Transports publics genevois serve the commune, with request stops on some lines. A tram project between Geneva and Saint-Julien-en-Genevois is under way: the line will serve Perly, with a stop planned in the village centre, a development that should strengthen connections in the coming years. This well-connected border location remains a constant asset for those who live or work on both sides of the border.
Schools and families
Perly-Certoux has its own kindergarten and primary school, attached to the school group covering Perly-Certoux, Compesières, Laconnex and Soral. The primary school is on the route de Certoux. Families also have access to after-school care and a school canteen run by the GIAP, as well as early childhood provision: a crèche run in partnership and the Les Moustiques nursery, which takes young children from the age of two. This set of local services makes the commune practical for households with children looking for a calm environment without moving away from Geneva.
Architecture and property
The buildings reflect the history of the two villages. Certoux, located in a plain once prone to flooding, saw its architectural development shaped by this constraint, while Perly was built on the heights. The commune combines village houses and villas alongside apartment buildings, in a preserved country setting. Recent projects show a measured evolution of the housing stock: along the route de Saint-Julien, new buildings combining wood and concrete are adding apartments, in line with the urban development expected around the future tram. This diversity, between quiet villas and more recent apartments, explains the variety of properties found locally.
