The westernmost municipality in Switzerland, on the Rhône and the French border: a wine-growing village surrounded by vineyards and fields.
Chancy occupies the westernmost tip of Switzerland, on the left bank of the Rhône, where the river leaves Swiss territory at the French border. The municipality lies in the south-west of the canton, next to Avully and Avusy, in the Champagne genevoise. The land is rural and largely given over to vines and farming. The village has kept its historic character, with its streets and country houses, in a setting shaped by the Rhône and cultivated slopes. Detached houses dominate the building stock, with an old village core and more recent villa areas. Plots are scarce in a municipality where vineyards and farmland frame the built-up area, which makes transactions infrequent.
Vineyards and fields around the village, the banks of the Rhône, a position at the far western edge of the canton on the border: Chancy lives to the rhythm of wine-growing countryside, away from the main roads.
