Gy is a rural commune in the canton of Geneva, on the Left Bank, in the north-east Geneva countryside, on the French border. Its territory borders the communes of Corsier, Jussy and Meinier, as well as the neighbouring French communes. The village keeps its original scale: town hall, temple, school and inn structure its centre, while most of the territory remains farmland and woodland. The Prés-de-Villette reserve, a wetland of national importance, lies within the commune.
Gy lives at the pace of the countryside: cultivated fields, forests and wide open spaces make up most of the landscape, with a large share of farmland and vineyards. The village keeps a close-knit life around its town hall, temple and inn. The Reformed temple, built in 1609-1611, is presented as the first Reformed temple in the Geneva countryside.
