A family municipality in the east of the canton, backing onto the countryside and the Foron, connected to the centre and Annemasse by tram.
Together with Chêne-Bourg and Chêne-Bougeries, Thônex forms the group known as the Trois-Chêne, in the east of the canton. Its territory runs along the Foron, the river that marks the border with France and Annemasse. The municipality keeps a human scale: quiet residential neighbourhoods, local shops, an active community life and green spaces. Backing onto the Geneva countryside, with walks along the Seymaz and the Foron, it remains connected to the rest of the urban area. The housing reflects a municipality that grew in stages: detached villas in the residential areas, semi-detached houses and apartment buildings from different periods, from post-war construction to recent developments. Villas with gardens for families, apartments for first-time buyers as well as for those downsizing.
Walks along the Seymaz and the Foron, sports and cultural facilities, markets and local events: Thônex offers a balance between tranquillity and services that appeals first and foremost to families.
