Where the canton meets the Salève and the border: village, the Vessy and Pinchat plateaus, villas and a density of greenery that is rare so close to the city.
Veyrier occupies the southern corner of the Left Bank, where the canton meets the Salève and the French border. The municipality includes the village of Veyrier, Petit-Veyrier, Sierne and the Vessy and Pinchat plateaus. People come here for the breathing space offered by the nearby mountain, without leaving Geneva. The village grew up around its church from the Middle Ages, and this old core still anchors the municipality. Around it, the landscape opens up: villa zones, farmland and the mass of the Salève to the south. To the west, the Vessy plateau slopes down to the Arve, where the sports centre is located; Pinchat, further north, forms another quiet residential plateau. Villas dominate the market. The built fabric developed through large residential zones, with plots that are often generous on the heights and towards Pinchat, and houses from different periods. Apartment areas remain more limited and are concentrated near well-served roads and new development areas, such as Les Grands Esserts.
A sports centre on the banks of the Arve, the Vessy and Pinchat plateaus, woodland and water, the Salève cable car just across the border: Veyrier offers a density of greenery that is rare this close to the city.
